What is GST?
In Canada, there are two types of sales tax: provincial sales tax and the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Alberta does not collect provincial sales tax. GST is a value-added tax currently set at 5%. When purchasing goods or services, taxpayers pay GST. When selling, businesses collect GST from buyers.
You must register for GST if:
- You make taxable sales, leases, or supplies in Canada.
- You are not considered a small supplier, which is a business with taxable sales under $30,000 in the last four consecutive quarters.
If your business exceeds this threshold or you're unsure about your eligibility, our accountants are here to assist you with the registration process.
